Currently, Nepal holds the record for the highest T20 score. During the group matches of the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, Nepal’s team scored a massive 314/3 against Mongolia. In the cricket field of Jiangxi University of Technology, Pingxiang, Hangzhou, Nepal’s Kushal Malla set the record for the fastest T20 century by any batsman, scoring it in just 34 balls. In the same innings, Deepender Singh Airee played a 50-run inning off just nine balls, which is the fastest fifty in T20 cricket.
In this match, Mongolia was dismissed for just 41 runs. The victory margin of 273 runs is the largest win (in terms of runs) in T20 cricket.
Before this record by Nepal in Hangzhou, Afghanistan and Czech Republic jointly held the record for the highest team score in a T20 innings.
Playing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun, Afghanistan’s opening batsman Hazratullah Zazai scored an unbeaten 162 runs off 62 balls, while Usman Ghani supported him with 73 runs, and both batsmen shared a record partnership of 236 runs for the first wicket.
In response, Ireland managed to score 194/6 in their 20 overs, and Afghanistan won the match by 84 runs.
Similarly, six months later, Czech Republic equaled this record by scoring 278/4 against Turkey in the Continental Cup on August 30, 2019.
Sudesh Vikramsekhar was the key batsman for Czech Republic, playing a century off 36 balls, while Sumit Pokhriyal contributed with 79 runs. In reply, the Turkish team was bowled out for 21 runs in 8.3 overs.
Before making their mark in the history of Afghanistan and Czech Republic, the Australian cricket team set a record by scoring 263/3 against Sri Lanka in 2016.
